Is There Room for Autistic People on TV?

If autistic people are going to represented fairly in the media, we need to to be included in the production of it.  One of the barriers we face is that behavior which may be associated with our disability is seen as so unprofessional that it is disqualifying.

Parks and Recreation actor Nick Offerman told GQhe was not surprised that Dan Harmon, who is on the autism spectrum, was fired from  Community:

It was crazy, but not surprising. Dan has been notoriously difficult with NBC. And then he had that really public Chevy Chase feud. I think Dan is brilliant, but we all kind of hung our heads and thought, That's no way for a boss to behave.

And I am wondering how long Charlie Lubeck's talent is going to keep him on The Glee Project when his autism keeps making people uncomfortable.  In the last episode, he didn't even break social rules-- he just created a character that was a little out of step with the rest of the group.  He was too interesting, so he ended up at risk of going home.

If there's not room for a genius like Harmon on his own show and if a show that prides itself on being disability-friendly is willing to eliminate an autistic contestant for seeming different, is there there room for autistic people on television at all?
